Anthony Thomas Payyappilly

Thomas is a graduate in Social Work (MSW) with 34 years of experience in Child Welfare & Child Protection. He worked in Child and Family Welfare in India for 16 years before immigrating to Canada in 2002. Shortly after his arrival, he was able to begin his career in Child Protection with York Region Children’s Aid Society and spent four years there. Then he moved to Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, and he has been with the agency for 14 years in different roles.

Thomas played a crucial role in mobilizing Social Workers of Malayali descent in Ontario as an informal support network and naming the fraternity MASWO in 2003. Since its beginning, he has been a source of inspiration and support for MASWO community, and his insightful guidance was instrumental in shaping up the organization in its current form.

Thomas is currently working as Pastoral Services Advisor with Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto. In his current role, he promotes spirituality infused practice with the workers and faith integrated practice with the service recipients of the Society. Thomas and his spouse Earnastin have been fostering children for the last 6 years with York Region Children’s Aid Society. For the Thomas family, caring for children is a passion.
